    But what about a process that can keep its minimum, but cannot keep all of the frames that it is currently using on a regular basis? You have the physical address. Setting Cache Levels to 1 disables image caching; only the current screen image is cached. While executing a program, if the program references a page which is not available in the main memory because it was swapped out a little ago, the processor treats this invalid memory reference as a page fault and transfers control from the program to the operating system to demand the page back into the memory.

    Increasing page sizes increases TLB reach, but also leads to increased fragmentation loss. Rosenburg in his blog "The failure of the Digital computer", has described the current state of programming as nearing the "Software event horizon", alluding to the fictitious "shoe event horizon" described by Douglas Adams in his Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy book [10]. This is termed a lazy swapper, although a pager is a more accurate term. If the TLB is already full, a suitable block must be selected for replacement. From that, the memory system can access the corresponding entry in the page table to find out just where this data is, retrieve it from disk if necessary, and then, using the frame number of the frame to which it was loaded, derive the corresponding physical address of this virtual address. At this point in time, memory accesses now contain two indirections: first we must construct the segment relative address using a 16 bit segment index, reading the 32 bit segment base address associated and adding a 32 bit segment offset CPUs shifted from 24 bit base addresses and offsets to 32 bit at the same time it introduced paging.

    If it is, then the two buddies are coalesced into one larger free block, and the process is repeated with successively larger free lists. Hence, every time there is a change in address space, such as a context switch, the entire TLB has to be flushed. If we have a reference to a page p, then any immediately following references to page p will never cause a page fault. If the page number is not in the TLB, the page table must be checked. If the structure were 3K, then space for 4 of them could be allocated at one time in a slab of 12K using three 4K pages.

I like to think I can explain things well, but that doesn't mean that you can not read carefully and still walk away with a good understanding. If the minimum allocations cannot be met, then processes must either be swapped out or not allowed to start until more free frames become available.
